Fig. 9 : A figure in the Bussere style that came to Europe about twenty
years ago. The stylized arms carved alongside the body, as well as the
curve of the body, which follows the movement of the trunk, make the
sculpture appear smaller than it actually is. The concave, heart-shaped
face evokes sculptures from the east Congo region. This archaic
sculpture comes from a region which, according to the Kronenbergs, was
still untouched by western influences in the 1950s. The legs have not
been cut off but apparently have eroded away; the sculpture was found on
the ground when it was collected.
