Fig. 3 : A Bongo figure, Tonj I style, by Kwanja Gete. This sculpture came to Europe from the Sudan fairly recently. The lower part of the legs were chopped off with a machete by the Bongo who collected it, probably to avoid disturbing the grave itself, since digging into the soil to remove the base could disturb the dead.
