blanket with a tobacco-colored field
Fig. 11: A double saddle blanket with a tobacco-colored field and a border of concha pictorials.
Navajo, circa 1900-1910.
55 x 36 inches
Private collection, Santa Fe
The concha belt was one of the mainstays of Navajo jewelry. Concha belts with round conchas separated by butterflies were popular during the 1900s and 1910s. I have seen five double saddle blankets with concha pictorial borders and all five appeared to be the work of the same weaver.
